Everyone’s favorite sardonic brunette Aubrey Plaza has received heaps of long-overdue critical acclaim for her performance in The White Lotus. Plaza sent shockwaves through the internet when she showed up as a blonde to the Governors Awards a couple of weeks back, to which Jennifer Coolidge rightly said, “extra hot!” The chic Old Hollywood glamour of the blonde updo paired with red lips was just the start of Plaza’s journey as a blonde. This week, the star got a color refresh and it looks even more powerful.
Rita Hazan, celebrity colorist and founder of the eponymous salon, was behind the most recent refresh of Plaza’s blonde ahead of the Gotham Awards. She describes the color as a “creamy blonde,” noting that it’s divergent from more common blonde shades because it “has some warmth to it.” Although Plaza has not been forthcoming about the reason for the switch, she hinted that it might be linked to an upcoming role in a recent Instagram post. “Someday, the blonde will all make sense,” Plaza teased with a winking emoji.
If you’re looking to achieve Plaza’s results in the salon, Hazan suggests asking for “a bright blonde that is neutral” or “a golden blonde with some cooler tones.” Hazan, who famously transitioned Beyoncé to blonde, freshened up Plaza’s color for added vibrancy while still keeping it safe.
Hazan says the key to maintaining this color is using Breaking Brass Shine Gloss ($13) once or twice a week in the shower. The product “will keep the hair healthy and shiny and prevent this blonde from turning brassy.”
