This Chic Brush Set Makes Me Feel Like a Professional Makeup Artist

Must read

Let me start by saying I am not highly skilled in the makeup application department. To be honest, most beauty editors I know aren’t. We can write all day about achieving the perfect cat-eye or quick contour, but does that make us pros in front of the vanity mirror? Unfortunately not. However, we know how to spot good quality, and we appreciate when beauty tools empower us to master new skills and ultimately, feel more confident.

When Luxie first launched in 2014 with its signature Rose Gold Collection, it instantly became a favorite among makeup enthusiasts, and over the years since, beauty editors, celebrities and influencers have also jumped on the bandwagon (Olivia Rodrigo and Kylie Jenner have sang the brand’s praises). Luxie’s soft, synthetic bristles are 100-percent vegan, and its brush sets are comprehensive and thoughtful. For those who want a little something different than the Rose Gold Collection offers, including three additional brushes, the Dreamcatcher Set is the one to try. Here’s my honest review.

The Benefits:

First, though many makeup brushes are vegan these days (meaning the bristles are not made with animal hair), all of Luxie’s brushes are entirely vegan and cruelty-free. This has become a more important factor for makeup artists and consumers alike who want high-performance products without compromising on ethics.

Second, the Dreamcatcher Set contains everything you need for a full face of makeup, from foundation and concealer brushes to eyeshadow brushes, and even a spoolie that can be used on the lashes or brows (or both). Some people like to pick and choose brushes from different brands to create their own unique set, but I appreciate when the brand does the work for me.

And lastly, though it might not be popular opinion, I am personally not the biggest fan of the color rose gold. So, when I first laid eyes on this set, which is a gorgeous periwinkle color with a gold accent instead rose gold, I was thrilled. This is a set I am proud to showcase on my vanity. Not to mention, it comes in a beautiful brush holder that easily wipes clean, so you don’t need additional storage.

How to Clean Your Brushes:

Gather all your dirty brushes and hold them upside down in the sink, so the water flows toward the bristles and away from the ferrule (the metal part between the bristles and the handle). You don’t want to get water in the ferrule if you can prevent it, as that part is glued inside and water will loosen the glue over time. Swirl the bristles around in makeup brush soap or create your own cleanser using dish soap and olive oil, or vinegar and lemon, etc., depending on your personal preference. Silicone brush cleaning mats can be really helpful as well, especially if you’re cleaning multiple brushes at a time.

Then rinse the soap from the brushes (again, bristles facing downward) and squeeze out any excess water with your fingers. Lay them flat to dry on a paper towel.
