Hailey Bieber is no stranger to internet breaking moments, and the latest viral trend she’s kickstarted is another delicious addition to this summer’s food inspired makeup catalogue. Tomato Girl’s femme and delicate sister, the Strawberry Girl look is quickly catching fire online, and we’re here to walk you through how to nail this late summer makeup trend.
Meet the Expert
Celebrity makeup artist Matin Maulawizada has worked with some of the most in-demand stars, including Angelina Jolie and Mandy Moore, among many others. He is best known for his work on the red carpet and gracing the covers of Elle and Vogue.
Strawberry Girl: Nailing the Look
If the Tomato Girl trend is all about updating the Coastal Grandmother Look for the newest, chicest generation, then the Strawberry Girl look is taking that girl on a pleasant picnic. Here, we’re toning down those breezy linens and gold jewelry for white cottons, walking barefoot in the grass and reading a good book in the sunshine.
We’re getting wholesome here, folks.
In terms of makeup, that means a delicate, skin-like finish that leaves you looking as sun-kissed as possible. Layering blushes and combining shades of pink will give you a natural flush, and minimal, eye-emphasizing touches like a thin brown liner will help make your eyes look big and doe-like.
Basically, we want to look cute and natural. An easy way to do this is to multitask your blush, using it lightly around the eye and on your lips to create a complete, one-tone look. In this way, we’re kind of riffing on Latte Makeup, only swapping browns for flattering pinks and rouges.
“Pigment is pigment,” Matin says. “The only thing you have to be careful is using too much red and purple around the eyes if you are allergic to red pigment in the eye. Otherwise even powder blush can be mixed with lip balm to create sheer or full color on the lips.”
And of course: for the Strawberry Girl look, you need freckles.
“Freck is a beautiful fun brand that actually makes fake freckles in a tube,” Matin explains. “It looks like a liquid liner but it’s sheer and looks extremely natural and is easy to apply.”
But if you don’t have access to a specific freckle product, you can always get by with the careful application of a brow pencil.
“Otherwise, a dark blond and a brown brow pencils can mimic freckles easily,” Matin says.
