One Must See Selena Gomez’s Black Cherry Manicure In the Light to Truly Appreciate It — See the Photos

Selena Gomez is in her goth era. The actor has been feeling deep, dark tones for red carpet events so far this year, starting with the shiny black patent leather mani she rocked at the 2024 Golden Globes and the black cherry set she chose for the 2024 Emmy Awards.

Gomez called up her go-to nail artist, Tom Bachik, to make her manicure dreams come true for the Emmys. Bachik used a combo of nail products to turn the star’s nails into shimmery, romantic, just-goth-enough black cherries, but you have to see them in the light — not on the red carpet — to truly appreciate all the little details.

The manicure mimicked the pattern of Gomez’s custom Oscar de la Renta gown in both color and shape. “The shape of the nail was super important today,” Bachik shared on Instagram. “We wanted to pair her custom dark color with a strong oval shaped nail to complement the pattern in her dress.”

Once her medium-length nails were shaped to perfection, Bachik mixed up a custom combo starting with a “super thin” layer of PLA’s Nail Liner in Black, followed by a coat of PLA Pro Gel Polish in You Can’t Tell Anyone, a deep eggplant purple. “To create the deep cherry effect, I took a small gel brush dipped into red chrome powder. Starting down the center of the nail, I mixed the chrome into the wet gel polish and blended it out to the sides,” Bachik explained. He then applied a top coat for shine and depth, resulting in a “deep rich cherry red that shimmers in the light just like car paint.” I could stare at these nails for hours, they’re so multidimensional.
