Launch List: The Best Makeup Launching in December

Must read

Hundreds of products come across our desks every month, but not all of them deliver on their claims or live up to the hype. (Not everything that goes viral on TikTok is a miracle worker.) This is our exclusive curation of the best-in-class makeup receiving rave reviews from our team and hitting shelves right now.

1 / 7

Rare Beauty Positive Light Silky Touch Highlighter ($25)

If you prefer powder over liquid or cream when it comes to highlighter, but you don’t want it to make your skin look dry, this is one to try. “It’s truly lightweight and goes on like silk, and I love the natural sheen it gives you—I’ve never seen a highlighter like this!” says brand founder and creator Selena Gomez.

It’s available in four shades (three of which have already sold out on Sephora.com): Enlighten (cool champagne), Exhilarate (champagne gold), Flaunt (true gold) and Mesmerize (rose bronze). No matter which you choose, the super-silky, talc-free powder delivers the most stunning, natural-looking sheen.

Barneys New York Beauty Hyduela Lip Balm ($28)

Available in both Clear and Cloudberry Red, this intensely moisturizing lip balm utilizes plant-based acacia protein element to strengthen the natural moisturizing factor(NMF) in the lips, along with cloudberry seed extract and small particles of hyaluronic acid to hydrate and smooth. It’s the formula we all need this time of year, and it’s so chic to pull out of your handbag (especially if you’re a New Yorker, or anyone, who misses shopping trips to Barneys!).

Grande Cosmetics GrandeBROW 2-In-1 Tinted Brow Gel + Brow Enhancing Serum ($38 for an eight-week supply)

For the person who uses a tinted brow gel (or brow mascara as I like to call them), this will be your new best friend—your best, best friend. It’s a tinted brow gel infused with brow-enhancing serum, and when you see the before-and-afters on the brand’s site, you might fall out of your chair.

My favorite part is that it doesn’t add an extra step into my routine like a traditional brow serum does. This actually replaces your brow serum. Yes, you heard that right! “It works double-duty to not only give you your everyday makeup look—an instant transformation from the color—but also a long-term transformation with thicker, fuller-looking brows in 16 weeks,” says founder Alicia Grande. It comes in four shades—Light, Medium, Dark and Auburn—and the brand is adding a fifth shade, Gray, in the new year, so stay tuned!

ALLEVEN Instant, Colour & Treatment ($35)

This celeb-favorite brand has a new innovation in the color department: a multitasking color treatment for lips, cheeks and eyes. Available in five shades, from terracotta to gold, this water-free formula comprises a unique fluid that’s made using dermo-adherent technology, meaning it has superior “fixation and duration” on the skin, and its “intelligent pigments adapt perfectly to any area of the face.”

The bottom line: it’s that product you need in the back of a cab when you need to look pulled together in two minutes and only have your cell phone as a mirror—I love the Rose or Terra shade for that. It’s also makeup that feels like skin care—never sticky or drying—which we love!

5 / 7

Maybelline New York Super Stay Up to 24HR Hybrid Powder-Foundation ($15)

For those with an oilier complexion, or maybe you just prefer a powder formula, this new vegan one from Maybelline comes in 16 shades and offers medium-to-full coverage and a beautiful soft-matte finish. It feels like you have nothing on, which is thanks to the brand’s hybrid technology—”the performance of a liquid with the comfort of a powder”—and it lasts ALL day. (Not that you would sleep in your makeup, but if you did, it would still be on when you woke up.)

And of course it’s resistant to water and sweat, and transfer-proof, so I bet it wouldn’t even come off on your pillow (sorry I won’t be testing it for that!).

6 / 7

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Yummy Gloss ($11)

Glass-like shine and good-for-your-lips ingredients like hyaluronic acid, acai berries, gogi berries and black elderberries make this lip gloss one you want to apply all day long. It comes in 12 shades—there are truly multiple options for everyone—and three yummy (pun intended) flavors: berry, coconut and pineapple, depending on the shade. It’s also vegan, gluten-free and nonsticky, which is a must with lip gloss!

7 / 7

Gee Beauty Liquid Glow Highlighter ($36)

If you’ve ever been to Gee Studios in Miami or Toronto, you know of the Gee sisters—Celine, Natalie and Stephanie—and their mother Miriam, and what they’ve created. If you aren’t familiar, this beautiful family has launched its own brand after providing treatments and product recommendations for clients over many years.

This new liquid highlighter can be worn solo (brow bones, cheekbones, etc) to accentuate anything you want to show off, or mixed into primer, foundation or body cream for full-face or full-body radiance. If applying all over, the Gee women recommend using a Kabuki brush and really blending it out using circular motions to diffuse the sheen.
