Julia Roberts is throwing it back to her Pretty Woman days with a fresh new hair color. The actor and rom-com icon hit the red carpet for the Critics Choice Awards on January 15 with her hair styled in loose, spiced copper-red waves. The color is similar to the rich auburn brown hue she had previously been rocking but bumped up a few steps to bring a beautiful warmth and vibrance to her look.
It really brings out her hazel eyes; I seriously can’t stop staring at how they pop against the red. You could tell me this was Pretty Woman‘s Vivian Ward all glammed up for an event with Edward and I’d believe you.
Roberts has been a redhead many times before, most notably in the early days of her career, and it’s fun to see her return to the shade again. She paired the copper waves with a peachy-pink blush and matching lip color, a subtle eye, and a lush dark lash for a pretty, classic makeup look that would have been right at home on ’90s Julia too. (And given Roberts has been working with Lancôme for over a decade, we’d bet she’s wearing a full face of the French cosmetic brand.) The new hair color was the perfect match for her glamorous black Schiaparelli gown with glimmering metallic sequins.
Copper hair colors continue to be one of the biggest beauty trends, in part because it’s so easy to customize to your look and your color comfort level. You can tiptoe into the hue with just a hint of strawberry blonde or go full-on bright orange-red. Roberts herself tends to stick to warm-toned shades, experimenting with a brunette bob with bangs, a light blonde and even a gorgeous rose gold. She’s even gone copper before, revisiting her Vivian-era red back in 2017. Is there any color Roberts can’t wear?
